Atlanta-area road closures due to a collapse of parts of I-85 on March 30 are requiring a re-thinking of delivery schedules in and around the Atlanta area.
A significant fire under the I-85 overpass collapsed a large portion of the interstate and has also severely damaged the road in both directions, requiring the DOT to close the interstate indefinitely.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported. Additionally, the affected area is was inside the I-285 Atlanta Bypass, which is required for commercial truck traffic. Unfortunately, the re-direction of traffic has impacted the already high volume of traffic the bypass already experiences.
Averitt's plan to address delivery challenges
Routing changes due to the road closures will affect the following areas:
- Buckhead
- Druid Hills
- Midtown
- Woodland Hills
- Lindberg
- Decatur
- Chamblee
- Doraville
Expect at least 1 hour of additional time in traffic regarding routes going into this area due to the traffic congestion in this area.
Please note: Expedited shipments to/from these areas may require additional restrictions due to the added time required to access the affected areas.
The Averitt management team will re-evaluate the situation on April 5 after a review of traffic conditions over the first few days of the traffic re-direction.
