Company Hosts Successful 5K, Softball Tournament and Upgrades Local Facilities
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — On Sept. 14, Averitt hosted a company-wide 5K event open to participants of all ages. The event saw a diverse range of participants, with winners recognized in various age brackets, including male and female categories. Corporate associate Chris Thacker was named the Overall Male Winner, and Theresa Grinder, who is married to corporate associate Sam Grinder, was the Overall Female Winner.
In addition to the 5K, Averitt held its annual softball tournament on Aug. 17 at Cane Creek Sportsplex in Cookeville, which featured a men’s bracket and a co-ed bracket. The event drew a record attendance of 1,400, with Averitt associates and their families traveling to Cookeville from all across the company’s network. In honor of every participant, volunteer and attendee, the company made a $50,000 donation to Averitt Cares for Kids, the company’s associate-driven charitable giving organization. The funds raised from the tournament will directly support the needs of patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

As part of its broader commitment to associate health and well-being, Averitt recently completed several major facility upgrades at its corporate campus, including a newly reconstructed Wellness Center and an enhanced outdoor recreation area at its corporate campus, as well as an expanded Driver Support Center at its service center located on Highway 111 just south of Interstate 40.
Averitt’s Wellness Center, which originally opened in 2010, is an on-site health clinic exclusively designed for Averitt associates, spouses and dependents. Previously located on Rich Froning Way, Averitt’s Wellness Center is now located on Neal Street in the building that formerly housed the offices of the Herald-Citizen newspaper. Averitt completely renovated the building to allow for expanded services for its associates.
Some of the new Wellness Center’s features include:
- Introduction of physical therapy services, including a dedicated room for PT sessions
- A meeting room for educational seminars and presentations
- A private room dedicated to injections and blood draws
Averitt has also expanded the outdoor recreation area located at its corporate campus. The area features new amenities such as:
- Pickleball and basketball courts
- Putting greens
- Shaded outdoor seating areas
The company has also recently opened a new Driver Support Center at its Cookeville-area service center.
The expansion will allow Averitt to provide over-the-road drivers with many comforts of home, including a lounge, exercise and break areas, showers, and laundry machines. The company operates 18 other similar facilities for its 4,000+ drivers throughout the country.
Additionally, the Cookeville-area maintenance shop has been updated with a new office and breakroom, an updated parts room, and new bathrooms, further enhancing the working environment for the company’s maintenance professionals.
